tvN’s weekend drama ‘Typhoon Family’ has hit a new milestone, recording its highest viewership yet.
According to Nielsen Korea, the 8th episode of Typhoon Family (written by Jang Hyeon Suk, directed by Lee Na Jung) aired on November 2 and achieved an average nationwide rating of 9.1%, with a peak of 9.6% among paid households. In the Seoul Metropolitan Area, it scored an average of 9% and peaked at 9.7%, marking the show’s all-time high and ranking No. 1 in its time slot across all cable and general programming channels.

Tensions Before Triumph
The episode took viewers to Thailand, where unexpected developments unfolded. Just before the overseas trip, friction grew within the sales team. O Mi-sun (Kim Min-ha)—who recently moved from accounting to sales manager—faced skepticism from Ma Jin (Lee Chang-hoon). He bluntly told her, “Sales isn’t that easy,” echoing the male-dominated office mindset of the time. Mi-sun stood her ground, replying, “I will be evaluated by the client, and I will prove myself with numbers.”
Despite her firm tone, Mi-sun couldn’t hide the frustration underneath. The tense air prompted Typhoon to step up and issue his first real “owner-like” order: everyone was to head to the club—not for leisure, but to meet Nicha (Davika Hoorne), the youngest daughter of Nihakam Group, who could make or break their helmet export deal.
Strategic Choices and Hope Rising
Earlier, the team had celebrated a successful deal with Kangsung, a helmet manufacturer, securing supplies that reignited their optimism. But the bigger question was where to sell—since most major markets were already full.
Typhoon’s surprising pick was Thailand, a nation that had experienced its own IMF crisis earlier than Korea. While others were puzzled, his choice was grounded in thorough research and years of collecting newspaper articles.
Adding to this, Ma Jin, a seasoned salesman, offered a solid plan through Sawadee Trading, a company run by his distant cousin Ko Ma-yong (Lee Han-wi), who’s been based in Thailand for over 15 years.
Arrest and Crisis
However, the upbeat momentum didn’t last. After a night meant for business networking, the trip turned into chaos. Feeling unproductive and uneasy, Mi-sun stepped out of the club—only for Typhoon to follow and console her, saying, “Don’t try so hard. I know how much effort you’re putting in.”
But that same night, Thai police raided their lodging, arresting all three—Typhoon, Mi-sun, and Ma Jin—at once. Confused and anxious, Mi-sun, who’d been practicing basic Thai, soon realized the cause: a $50 bribe given by Ma Jin to a customs officer.
The issue spiraled fast after CCTV footage confirmed the act. After verification, the authorities officially detained Ma Jin. The arrest not only shocked viewers but also set up a major cliffhanger as fans wonder how the team will recover from this foreign crisis where even communication feels impossible.
What’s Next for ‘Typhoon Family’?
Episode 8 ended on a heavy note, yet anticipation is higher than ever. With Lee Chang-hoon’s arrest in Thailand and tensions among the team, viewers are eager to see how Typhoon and O Mi-sun navigate this new ordeal.
