Kim Seul-gi has drawn attention for her remarkable synchronization with her webtoon counterpart in ‘Spirit Fingers’.
The TVING original, which dropped its first four episodes on the 29th, captures a colorful and healing youth story about self-discovery and individuality. In it, Kim Seul-gi takes on the role of Ko Taeng-ja, better known as the “Black Finger.”
From her first scene, Black Finger made a strong impression. Her brief but striking introduction — “Black Finger” — immediately set her apart, while her calm delivery mixed with quirky comedic timing added a kind of strange charm. Viewers quickly noticed how she switched between cool indifference and witty humor with lines like, “I’ll graciously allow that I join the club,” and “Are you feeling shy right now? So that’s your taste.”
Interestingly, the Black Finger also becomes the reason behind Song U-yeon (played by Park Ji-hu) joining the Spirit Fingers group. Suggesting, “We need a ten (10),” she indirectly creates the opening that pushes the story forward — a subtle but major turning point in the plot.

Critics and fans alike pointed out that Kim Seul-gi perfectly expressed her character’s offbeat allure through short dialogues and subtle facial shifts. Her look — complete with a black robe and dark lip makeup for the Grim Reaper-inspired costume — nailed the tone of the character while still managing to bring light, laughter, and a touch of freshness.
What’s getting extra attention is how different this image is from Kim’s usual on-screen vibe. Known for her cheerful and lively characters, she now channels a much more chic and mysterious energy. Her cold tone, poised attitude, and steady control of each scene highlight her growth and adaptability as an actress.
‘Spirit Fingers’ (starring Kim Seul-gi, Park Ji-hu, and more) releases two episodes every Wednesday at 4 PM (KST) on TVING, with global streaming available through VIKI.
