MBC is turning the page on its struggling Friday-Saturday lineup. Following low-rated dramas Mary Kills People and To the Moon (both slipped into the 1% range), the broadcaster will roll out its new historical fantasy romance Moon River (The Moon Flows over the River) on October 31 at 9:50 PM (KST).
The project is already drawing attention because it marks Kim Se-jeong’s first historical drama role since her 2016 debut. She stars opposite Kang Tae-oh, who takes on the role of Crown Prince Lee Kang.

Posters ignite early buzz
Ahead of its premiere, the production team released two teaser posters and a special poster. The first teaser shows Lee Kang holding Park Dal-Yi like a paper doll, his grumpy face contrasting with her free-spirited charm. Another version flips the roles—Kim Se-jeong (as Park Dal-Yi) wears the prince’s robes, smiling mischievously while holding Kang Tae-oh’s character, now a peddler.

The tagline, “A chaotic, soul-swapping romance between complete opposites,” hints at the drama’s core twist: the crown prince and the female peddler end up switching souls, blurring the lines of gender, class, and personality.
The special poster adds more playful imagery. Crown Prince Lee Kang appears perched on Park Dal-Yi’s paeraengi hat (a traditional conical hat) that’s illustrated with a landscape painting. Park Dal-Yi’s smiling eyes contrast with Lee Kang, who clings tightly to a piece of cotton attached to the hat—building curiosity about their chemistry.
Fantasy romance with a twist
Moon River is described as a life-reversal romantic comedy. The drama follows Lee Kang, a crown prince who has lost his smile, and Park Dal-Yi, a wandering peddler who has lost her memory. Their fates collide in ways they would have never crossed paths otherwise.
The casting of Kang Tae-oh and Kim Se-jeong, often described as a “trustworthy rom-com duo,” is fueling high expectations among viewers and the Korean drama community.
Not available on Netflix or global OTT
While many fans hoped for worldwide access, Moon River will not stream on Netflix or any international OTT platforms. For now, the drama will only air on MBC domestically in Korea.
With MBC banking on Moon River to revive its Friday-Saturday drama ratings, all eyes are on how this soul-swap historical fantasy will perform when it premieres on October 31 at 9:50 PM.
