Kim Woo-bin, the well-known South Korean actor, recently sent a wreath to the funeral of ’Song Gil-yong,’ who tragically passed away after a traffic accident. Song Gil-yong, who was 71, had been searching for his missing daughter, Song Hye-hee, for 25 years.
On February 26th, Song Gil-yong was involved in a crash with a dump truck at an intersection in ’Pyeongtaek,’ which led to his death. His funeral took place at the Songtan First Funeral Home in Pyeongtaek.
Kim Woo-bin’s wreath at the funeral caught a lot of attention, with many wondering about the connection between him and Song Gil-yong. In response to these questions, Kim Woo-bin’s agency, AM Entertainment, explained to Chosun.com on August 29th that the actor had seen posters about Song Gil-yong’s missing daughter and was deeply touched by the father’s unwavering dedication.
“Kim Woo-bin felt a deep sense of sorrow and sent the wreath, hoping that Song Gil-yong would rest in peace,” the agency shared. They mentioned that Kim Woo-bin personally arranged the wreath and that even his agency only found out about it later.
Song Hye-hee, who was Song Gil-yong’s second daughter, disappeared on February 13, 1999, right before she was set to start her senior year of high school. She had left home to study and never came back.
For 25 years, ’Song Gil-yong’ tirelessly searched for his daughter, even giving up his job to devote his life to finding her. He used the money he made from selling street food to fund his search, putting up posters everywhere that said, “Please help find missing Song Hye-hee!!” He also traveled around the country in a truck with his daughter’s photo on it. His wife, who struggled with depression, had passed away in 2006.
In a 2020 interview with Chosun Ilbo, Song Gil-yong said, “After my wife passed away, I gave up on dying and focused all my energy on finding Hye-hee. I can’t forget her. If I don’t find Hye-hee while I’m alive, I won’t be able to rest even in the afterlife. I’ll keep searching, even as a ghost.”
Despite his numerous media interviews and TV appearances, Song Gil-yong was never able to find his daughter. His funeral was held on the morning of August 29th.
