Devils Plan 2 Ends in Controversy After Jung Hyun Gyus Victory

Devil’s Plan: Death Room just wrapped up on May 20th, with Netflix dropping the final batch of episodes (10 to 12). And yeah, Season 2 finally has a winner — Jung Hyun-Gyu. But honestly? That win didn’t land well with a lot of people.

While Jung Hyun-Gyu grabbed the 380 million won prize (roughly $277K), reactions from viewers have been pretty cold. A big reason for that is the way he behaved throughout the game. At one point, he even mocked Choi Hyun-joon — a model with a KAIST math degree — by saying, “Do you know how to do arithmetic? Shall we try some? Did you calculate with the same decimal system?” Not cool at all.

People were looking forward to thrilling mind games and sharp strategy in this so-called “brain survival” show, but instead it kinda turned into a weird social game — some are even calling it a dating show. That shift totally let the audience down, and made Jung’s win feel pretty meaningless in the end.

The frustration only got worse with how the gameplay played out. There was this ridiculous 9-to-2 alliance split, which felt more like bullying than strategy. Jung, along with Kyuhyun from Super Junior and actress Yoon So-hee, were right at the center of it.

What made it worse? Jung, who’d been leading the majority alliance earlier, suddenly switched to feeling “lonely” when he ended up in the minority. He even told So-hee and Kyuhyun about how isolated he felt and then went on to call Choi Hyun-joon a “traitor.” Viewers couldn’t ignore how contradictory that was — especially since he’d been pushing the “It’s just a game” narrative when he was the one in control.

Yoon So-hee and Kyuhyun didn’t exactly help either. They kept defending Jung blindly, even when his gameplay didn’t make sense. Kyuhyun, despite knowing Jung had a strong move that could’ve saved him, chose to help him anyway — and got eliminated. And So-hee, who had a real shot at winning, just sort of gave up during her final match with Jung, making a bunch of odd moves that didn’t really add up. That whole trio became pretty frustrating for people watching, especially with their whole “naeronambul” attitude — basically, “It’s fine when I do it, not when others do.”

Now the backlash is all over social media. Jung, Kyuhyun, and So-hee are getting slammed with nasty comments online. Jung did come out with an apology on social media saying, “I’m sorry,” and even showed up on a variety show with Hyeri where he joked about himself, saying, “Watching it back, I reflected a lot. I wondered, ‘Could there be such an obnoxious person?’ and that was me.”

Meanwhile, Kyuhyun posted on a fan platform the same day and said, “You can’t put everything into the broadcast, can you? I have a lot of regrets too, but it can’t be helped. I’ll tell you the details later, so don’t be too upset.” He added, “The cast members have a very strong and understanding relationship, so please look at it positively. Everyone has their own perspective.”

In the end, instead of being a clever mind game like fans were promised, Devil’s Plan 2 left most of its audience disappointed, frustrated, and kinda done with it.
