Aespa Drops Dirty Work MV Hits 1.01 Million Pre Orders

aespa’s ‘Dirty Work’ Surpasses 1.01 Million Pre-Orders Ahead of Release.

aespa dropped their new K-pop single “Dirty Work” on June 27 at 1 PM KST, along with the official music video, now available across all major streaming platforms. The release adds another chapter to the group’s strong 2024 comeback schedule.

As of June 26, SM Entertainment reported that the single had already hit around 1.01 million pre-orders, making this aespa’s sixth million-selling release. It follows their previous sales hits: Girls, MY WORLD, Drama, Armageddon, and Whiplash — all of which established the group as consistent chart-toppers in K-pop album sales.

The Dirty Work music video introduces a big shift in aespa’s artistic direction. Ditching their earlier cyber-themed visuals, the group performs in a gritty, industrial steel mill. The video focuses on raw movement, showing the members running, rolling, and dancing through harsh, muddy spaces. It’s a grounded setup that contrasts with the virtual worlds from previous releases — and highlights their evolving K-pop concept in 2024.

aespa’s new track is described as a dance-heavy production built around sharp synth bass and a dry, urban vocal delivery. It tones down the explosive energy of songs like Whiplash, leaning instead into polished minimalism while still keeping the group’s signature metallic sound identity. The production team sticks with aespa’s established sonic direction but now adds more maturity and control.

The lyrics in “Dirty Work” stand out for their bold message:
“Like a mutation that never existed before / I am a curse / When seen by the majority / Set ’em on fire, illuminate yourself.”
Delivered with a cool tone, these lines echo aespa’s ongoing themes of self-definition and rebellion, tying into broader K-pop lyric trends centered around identity and power.

The single includes four versions: the main double title track, a feature version with Flo Milli, an English version, and an instrumental. The physical album version — which includes just the title and instrumental tracks — also dropped the same day.

Fans can also look forward to a limited edition called Dirty Work (Dirty Crew Ring Ver.), set for release on July 4. SM Entertainment explained that it’s meant to represent the “bond” between aespa and their fanbase MY, adding emotional value to the collectible release — a growing trend in K-pop fan engagement.

Stylistically, “Dirty Work” builds on aespa’s recent title tracks like Supernova, but pushes toward a more refined, physical feel. The group is gradually stepping away from abstraction and leaning into real-world settings and textures, which align with how some K-pop groups in 2024 are reinventing their image without completely breaking from their original concept.
