‘IDOL I’ is quickly establishing itself as a global K-drama success, posting strong results across international platforms and domestic charts just days after release.

As of the 25th, data from FlixPatrol, an OTT content ranking site, shows the Genie TV original series ranked No. 5 worldwide in Netflix’s Global TV Shows category. The drama entered the Top 10 in at least 40 countries, taking the No. 1 position in Indonesia and Thailand, while also placing within the Top 5 in markets such as Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan.

Notably, the series is gaining traction beyond Asia. Industry watchers are pointing to its expanding audience base in the Middle East and South America, underscoring its scalability in non-traditional K-drama markets—something that’s not always guaranteed.

Overseas response has been similarly positive. On IMDb, ‘IDOL I’ currently holds a rating of 8.8. International outlet Midgard Times praised the series, stating, “‘IDOL I’ is an excellent drama with a solid story filled with charming characters and unpredictable plot twists.” The review has circulated widely among global viewers following the show’s Netflix debut.

At home, momentum is building just as quickly. The drama debuted at No. 6 on South Korea’s Netflix rankings and rose to No. 2 shortly after. Broadcast ratings also showed an upward trend. According to Nielsen Korea, episode two recorded a 2.3% viewership rating on ENA, improving on episode one’s 1.9% nationwide and 1.8% in the metropolitan area.

The series blends mystery, legal drama, and romance. It centers on star lawyer Maeng Se-na, a devoted fan who unexpectedly represents her “ultimate bias,” Do Ra-ik, after he’s framed for murder. Choi Soo young portrays the determined attorney fighting to prove her idol’s innocence, while Kim Jae-yeong plays Do Ra-ik, the lead vocalist of fictional idol group Gold Boys, whose career collapses overnight.

With rising Netflix global rankings, improving domestic ratings, and favorable critical reception both locally and overseas, attention is now on what kind of long-term performance ‘IDOL I’ will deliver next—especially as competition intensifies in the global K-drama market.
