Netflix has confirmed the release date for its new romantic comedy series Can This Love Be Translated?, starring Kim Seon-ho and Go Youn-jung. The series premieres on January 16, 2026, and it’s already drawing strong attention ahead of its debut.
The project brings together a highly anticipated creative lineup, including the hit-making writers Hong Jeong-eun and Hong Mi-ran—better known as the Hong Sisters (Hotel Del Luna, Alchemy of Souls)—alongside director Yoo Young-eun, who previously showed restrained visual storytelling in Bloody Heart. Expectations are, frankly, running high.
Set against global backdrops, Can This Love Be Translated? follows the unusual romance between Ju Ho-jin (Kim Seon-ho), a calm and highly skilled multilingual interpreter, and Cha Mu-hui (Go Youn-jung), a sharp-tongued and unpredictable global top star. When Ho-jin becomes Mu-hui’s exclusive interpreter, misunderstandings pile up—then slowly unravel—pulling the two closer despite their clashing worlds.
Much of the early buzz centers on the pairing itself. Kim Seon-ho, long associated with the rom-com genre after Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, steps back into familiar but refined territory as a professional interpreter with emotional restraint. Go Youn-jung, who gained momentum through Sweet Home and Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow, takes on a bold transformation as a high-profile celebrity, signaling another shift in her screen image.
The trailer, released on the 18th, has only intensified interest. Viewers immediately noticed the contrast-driven chemistry—measured calm versus volatile stardom—and the visual compatibility between the leads. Online reactions have been swift, and largely positive.

One standout moment in the preview hints at a complicated emotional triangle. Japanese actor Sota Fukushi, playing Hiro, delivers a confession to Mu-hui in Japanese: “I… Really Like You.” The tension spikes when Ho-jin hesitates instead of translating the line. As Mu-hui presses him—“What did he just say? Translate it”—the scene suggests that emotional boundaries, and professional ones, won’t stay intact for long.
Beyond character dynamics, the series also leans into scale. Filming took place across Canada, Italy, and Japan, adding polished visuals and international atmosphere that align with Netflix’s global drama strategy.
With a proven writing team, a visually focused director, and two leads known for strong audience pull, Can This Love Be Translated? positions itself as one of Netflix’s early 2026 Korean drama highlights. The answer, starting January 16, will come with subtitles—and possibly withheld meanings.
