On the 27th, the YouTube channel “STUDIO SUZE,” run by broadcaster PungJa, dropped a post on its community page to say sorry and lay out what they’re doing next after getting caught up in a controversy over a non-celeb participant on their show “Tto-Gan-Jip.”
They said, “Thank you to everyone who always loves and watches ‘Tto-Gan-Jip.’ In the recently released ‘Tto-Gan-Jip’ Anyang episode, a case was identified where the top-ranked restaurant violated the ‘Tto-Gan-Jip’ selection criteria.”
The studio explained a bit more, saying, “We directly confirmed that the statement made by the non-celebrity participant claiming they were ‘not related by family’ was false. We directly verified the facts with the individual, and they have repeatedly expressed their apologies to the studio and viewers.” Because of that, they shared, “The delivered posters have been collected, and the episode has been permanently deleted.”
“STUDIO_SUZE” also added, “We plan to re-prepare and release the Anyang episode as quickly as possible.” They gave a heads-up too, saying, “We wanted to respond carefully, concerned about excessive criticism towards the participant involved in the controversy. We do not want any personal information or malicious comments regarding the participant, and such comments may be deleted.”
They made sure to clear up another point too, stressing, “‘Tto-Gan-Jip’ has not received any restaurant advertisements for the past three years, and we want to clearly reiterate this to our viewers. We will do our best to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.”
The whole issue started with the “Tto-Gan-Jip” Anyang episode that dropped on the 25th. While filming in Anyang, a non-celebrity participant suddenly jumped in and promoted a restaurant. During that, they claimed they weren’t related to the restaurant they were hyping up, but turns out, that wasn’t true. PungJa and the crew double-checked the footage several times and usually try to catch stuff like this, but somehow, this one slipped through. After finding out, they re-edited the Anyang episode, cut out the problematic bits, and re-uploaded it.
