A Change of Heart for Baek Hyun-woo

Previously resolved to divorce his incapacitated wife, Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun) experiences a shift in perspective upon learning of her limited lifespan. Inheritance and his future control of Queens Group now occupy his thoughts as his wife’s health deteriorates.

Believing in a Past Confession

Hong Hae-in clings to Baek Hyun-woo’s past confession made under the assumption of her poverty: “I mentioned buying a house with a jeonse loan. But there’s more. I actually save 2 million won every month. Don’t worry, I’m not pretending. Debt is okay. As long as I have you by my side.”

Yoon Eun-sung’s Challenge

However, Hong Hae-in’s resolve is shaken by Yoon Eun-sung’s (Park Sung-hoon) words. Lured to a meeting place under the pretense of seeing Chairman Herman, Hong Hae-in finds herself alone and disgruntled. Yoon Eun-sung presents her with an enticing offer, leading to a dinner that escalates into a drinking session.

A Different Perspective on Love

Yoon Eun-sung criticizes Baek Hyun-woo’s actions during the wild boar incident, claiming he hesitated to save her. Hong Hae-in counters with a resolute expression, “That’s the difference between you and him. In that moment, he saw me, while you only saw him. Love, in my opinion, isn’t just about sharing happiness. It’s about enduring the bad times and being there for each other, even with debt.” However, Yoon Eun-sung subtly exposes her insecurity: “Your explanation is lengthy. It suggests a lack of confidence.”

A Text and a Confrontation

Baek Hyun-woo discovers, through his sister Baek Mi-sun (Jang Yoon-ju), a text message sent to Hong Hae-in urging her to reconsider the divorce. He attempts to explain the situation, but his efforts are thwarted by a switched-off phone and a surprising sight: an intoxicated Hong Hae-in with a sober Yoon Eun-sung at her side.

Genuine Anger and a Harsh Reality

Baek Hyun-woo expresses genuine anger, questioning Yoon Eun-sung’s actions: “How much can she drink? Why did you let her get this drunk?” His mood was already troubled by Yoon Eun-sung’s dinner arrangement with Hong Hae-in. Sensing Baek Hyun-woo’s distress, Yoon Eun-sung feigns concern, suggesting a hangover remedy for Hong Hae-in.

A Drunken Decision and a Sudden Spark

Baek Hyun-woo confronts Hong Hae-in, asking, “Why did you drink? You never used to.” Fueled by alcohol, Hong Hae-in expresses her frustration: “I wanted to live a long and healthy life, doing the things everyone else does. But what is this? It’s unfair! I’ll kill all those who betrayed me! But then again, even if I kill someone, I only have three months left. A little jail time before I die, what’s the difference?” In a sudden shift, she experiences a spark of excitement and kisses her husband, Baek Hyun-woo, muttering, “I lived the way I didn’t before.”
